Finding time to DIY
Part of the reason for starting this blog was to document my own attempts at DIY. So far I’m not doing so great. I have an abundance of ideas, but finding the time to turn the ideas into reality is the challenge. My problem is I want to do too much at once, and sometimes that ends in nothing being done at all. Perhaps the only solution is to set aside an evening or one day a week for DIY. The challenge is how to avoid making something that should be fun end up feeling like a chore?
Thankfully I do have some minor progress to report. I have potted the two orange trees and they are now happily living in the porch. Unfortunately Homebase didn’t have the plant pot I wanted (picture above) so spotting some basic white indoor pots I formulated my Plan B.
A few weeks ago there was a post on How About Orange using Washi Tape (Japanese decorative masking tape) to decorate vases and jugs. I’ve found the tape for sale on Amazon so I’m going to give the idea a go with plant pots. I’ll blog the results.
This past week we finally sorted out the lampshades for the dining room and lounge, thanks to an impromptu visit to Wilkinson.
The next lampshade challenge is the hall. I’ve spotted some great ideas on Mérchant Design and Ikea Hackers for making something special out of one of those cheap paper lanterns.
We now have an unmistakably red theme in our dining room. There are a couple of finishing touches needed (including finding a home for kitchen gadgets), but I will blog about it very soon. Our best find in Wilkinson was the Poppy Meadow dining set, reduced to £12! Now we can get rid of the tired Ikea 365 crockery, which has served me well for many years but is sadly limping towards the end of its life.
